It is sad to have to report the death of our Honorary President, Gwynedd Pierce, last week, just before his 101st birthday. Less than a year ago the Society presented him with a Festschrift, Ar Drywydd Enwau Lleoedd (In Search of Place Names), as a mark of our respect and thanks. He accepted it with gusto. He was one of the giants of place-name studies in Wales, but completely unassuming. We will not see his like again.
