Protecting the Place Names of Wales

3-11 August 2018: The Cardiff National Eisteddfod

Our stand at the National Eisteddfod this year was a new experience. Despite having more restricted space this year, and being unable to offer activities and talks, as was possible last year in Anglesey, it was extremely busy and productive with many enquiries being answered. The enthusiasm of our loyal volunteers managed to attract many new members. We enjoyed a visit from the staff of the Heritage Lottery Fund, who were amazed at the lively interest shown by visitors to the stand. Many non-Welsh speakers were attracted by the bilingual interpretation panels about Risca, Cardiff and Ebbw Vale. Ifor Williams enticed a number of Assembly Members, including the First Minister, from their stand nearby to join us to discuss the importance of place-names.
