Protecting the Place Names of Wales

28 July 2020: Angharad honoured

The Gorsedd has announced the names of the people who were due to be honoured at the National Eisteddfod in Tregaron including, with green robes:

Angharad Fychan: Angharad Fychan, Pen-bont Rhydybeddau, Aberystwyth, has made a significant contribution to the field of place-names. Since 2011, she has been a conscientious and energetic secretary of the Welsh Place-Name Society, lecturing regularly on the subject. She leads educational walks explaining the importance of place-names in the landscape, and has written a place-names column every month for Y Tincer since 2013. She is also a member of the Welsh Language Commissioner’s place-names standardization team. She has also made a major contribution by her work as Senior Editor on the staff of Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru, and her work is always characterized by polish and enthusiasm.
